Eye Care
Glaucoma
Shanghai's glaucoma services combine eye-pressure and vision monitoring with medication, laser and surgical treatment options.

Glaucoma is a group of conditions that damage the optic nerve, often — but not always — linked to higher pressure inside the eye. It is sometimes called the "silent thief of sight" because side vision can fade gradually without noticeable symptoms until later stages. Treatment aims to protect the vision you still have by controlling eye pressure with drops, laser or surgery; lost vision cannot be restored, which is why regular monitoring is important.
Access to surgical expertise and structured follow-up.
Shanghai's glaucoma services include experience with minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS). In 2021, Fudan University's Eye and ENT Hospital announced a programme supporting eligible patients with both MIGS procedures and approximately two years of follow-up, including seven to eight visits — a documented example of a care pathway extending beyond the operation itself (Source: Fudan University, November 2021). Companion does not endorse any single provider. For international patients, the opportunity is a specialist assessment of treatment options and a clear view of the ongoing care each requires. We help arrange that discussion and clarify which follow-up appointments would need to take place in Shanghai before you commit to travel.
