Your first conversation: what to prepare

You can begin with a few simple notes. A first conversation is a chance to understand the process, without needing to choose a treatment straight away.
Bring your questions
- What are you hoping to understand or arrange?
- Which practical concerns matter most to you?
- Are you considering travel alone or with someone?
Ask about the process
Discuss which documents the treating team may need, how estimates will be prepared and how communication will work. Share medical documents only through an agreed secure channel.
Make a short list of priorities
Write down the questions you would most like answered. It can help to separate your care questions from practical needs such as language support, accommodation and travelling with a companion.
Leave with a clear next step
Before the conversation ends, agree what information is still needed, who will contact you and how the next discussion will take place. Keep a copy of the proposed arrangements so you can review them in your own time.
